How does GIF compression work?
GIFs are limited to a colour palette. Shrinking that palette — from 256 down to 64 or 32 colours — is the single biggest saving, and most GIFs look identical at 128. Scaling the dimensions down compounds it further.
What does dithering do?
Dithering scatters pixels to fake colours the palette no longer has, which smooths gradients but adds noise that costs bytes. Lower it toward 0 for flat graphics and screencasts; keep it near 1 for photographic GIFs.
Will the animation still play?
Yes. Every frame, along with the frame delays and loop count, is preserved — only the palette and dimensions change.
Are uploaded GIFs stored?
No. Files are processed in memory and returned immediately — nothing is written to disk.
